TotalEnergies and Colas are renewing their partnership to decarbonize the construction business

TotalEnergies and Colas are renewing their 3-year partnership, working together to speed up the decarbonization of the construction business in France and abroad. This collaboration is in line with the strategy of these two French companies to support the energy transition, both for their own operations and for those of their customers.
A multi-energy partnership to reduce emissions
In this partnership, TotalEnergies and Colas are continuing to develop decarbonization solutions in three major areas:
- Large-scale deployment of multi-energy solutions such as supplying construction sites with biofuels (hydrotreated vegetable oil - HVO) and electricity via batteries, replacing the traditional generators;
- Installing electric recharging infrastructure powered by guaranteed renewable electricity for the Colas fleet of electrically-powered lorries, machinery and worksite equipment;
- Making the most of existing Colas land by installing solar power plants that contribute to generating renewably-sourced electricity and to making the sites energy-independent.
These solutions meet the ambitious objectives of the Colas Group's low-carbon and biodiversity roadmap, which aims for a 46.5% reduction in the group’s greenhouse gas emissions (scopes 1 and 2) by 2030. TotalEnergies is leveraging its expertise to achieve this through its multi-energy strategy, offering a wide range of low-carbon solutions. In addition to reducing its own emissions, by 2030 TotalEnergies aims to achieve a 25% cut in the carbon intensity of the energy products it sells to its customers, from 2015 levels.
A large-scale project in France to implement solutions with a low carbon footprint
The first phase of collaboration involved testing carbon footprint reduction solutions on Colas Group construction sites, including a large-scale refurbishment project in France, currently in its final phase.
Under this project, TotalEnergies supplied HVO100 (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a 100% renewable biofuel, to power more than 220 machines and heavy goods vehicles working on the site. Using this alternative fuel immediately reduces CO₂ emissions by 60% to 90% compared with fossil fuels.
Electric batteries with a capacity of 2.4 MWh have also been installed to replace generators, in particular to power the site facilities. They have provided a reliable and efficient electricity supply.
Carried out under exceptional conditions, this experiment reduced CO2 emissions by almost 4,000 metric tons and confirmed the feasibility and effectiveness of innovative multi-energy solutions on an isolated worksite.
"The renewal of our partnership with TotalEnergies illustrates our determination to speed up the decarbonization of our business. Innovative multi-energy solutions and the development of our land resources will consolidate the position of the Colas Group as a low-carbon worksite operator serving its customers," says Pierre Vanstoflegatte, CEO of the Colas Group.
"We are looking forward to continuing this partnership with Colas. Our multi-energy offers provide practical and innovative low-carbon solutions to support our customers in decarbonizing their activities," says Bernard Pinatel, the Downstream Operations, Marketing and Services Director at TotalEnergies.
