Colas launches a skill-based sponsorship to rebuild the Lycée Bamana secondary school in Mayotte

Mayotte, Colas's subsidiary in Mayotte, is committed to rebuilding the Lycée Younoussa Bamana high school in Mamoudzou, which was partially destroyed by Cyclone Chido.
On 14 December 2024, Cyclone Chido struck Mayotte with unprecedented intensity, causing major damage across the entire territory: public infrastructure, schools, water and electricity networks, and homes were severely affected.
In Mamoudzou, the Lycée Younoussa Bamana, a historic school on the island with more than 2,500 students, suffered significant damage. Its restoration is one of the priorities of the ‘Mayotte Debout’ Plan, announced by the Prime Minister during his visit to the island on 30 December 2024.
Long committed to local development and faced with the scale of the reconstruction effort, Colas is supporting the Rectorat de Mayotte (Mayotte Regional Education Authority) through skill-based sponsorship: teams from Colas Mayotte and its subsidiary ETPC will volunteer to rebuild the first floor of three buildings at the high school, enabling the reopening of administrative offices and spaces dedicated to teaching staff.
The work will involve teams from all business lines: road construction, building, woodworking, electricity, not to mention the supply of raw materials to ETPC. The project is scheduled to begin in July and last for eight months.
"We are proud to put our expertise to work in rebuilding Mayotte and promoting education, thereby helping the island's young generations", says Thierry Méline, Executive Vice President, France & Indian Ocean, Colas.
This contribution, in line with our corporate social responsibility policy and consistent with the commitments of the Colas Foundation, is exclusively intended to address the humanitarian and educational emergency.
Through this initiative, Colas reaffirms its deep commitment to Mayotte and its youth, as well as its commitment to actively participating in the island's reconstruction and sustainable development.
