Colas has been awarded the contract to build the western section of the Bradford bypass in Ontario (Canada)
Colas (via The Miller Group) has been selected by the Government of Ontario (Canada) to deliver the western section of the Bradford Bypass, a four-lane highway project aimed at reducing congestion and improving traffic flow in the York Region and Simcoe County, for a contract value of €345 million*.
Work begins almost immediately on this new contract with completion expected in 2030.
The Bradford Bypass is a 16.3km controlled-access highway linking Highway 400 (Simcoe County) to Highway 404 (York Region). It is being delivered under a CMGC model (Construction Manager / General Contractor), an infrastructure delivery approach in which the construction company is involved from the early design stages to help optimize technical and operational aspects of the project.
The contract covers a 6.5 km section between Highway 400 and Yonge Street, forming a key part of a major infrastructure investment in Ontario. The works include the construction of new interchanges, the replacement of a bridge, and the creation of a direct connection to Highway 400.
The project aims to significantly reduce road congestion in the York Region and Simcoe County, with estimated travel time savings of up to 35 minutes on certain routes. It is also expected to support around 2,200 jobs per year and generate up to CAD 286 million for the Ontario economy.
"This is a significant achievement, of which we are all very proud. It reflects the strength of our commitment, rewards the close collaboration between The Miller Group, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, and the design partners, and enables us to bring field expertise and innovative solutions. The trust built throughout this collaboration allowed us to secure the full contract," said François Vachon, President of Colas Canada.
"This is a structuring project for the group, in a region where we have been established for over 100 years. It builds on the strong experience of our local teams and represents one of the largest contracts awarded in Ontario, strengthening Colas, through The Miller Group, as a leader in the sector," added Pierre Vanstoflegatte, CEO of Colas Group.
