Three Colas subsidiaries won two contracts for the construction of the second tramway line in Angers along with ancillary road works, for a total of €63 million. The new 10.1-km long line will run between the neighborhoods of Belle-Beille, to the west of the city area, and Monplaisir, to the northeast, via the city center, crossing the Maine river on a new bridge.

Colas Rail, Colas' railway company, was awarded the contract for the construction of the entire rail network. This includes building the tramway platforms, laying track, installing power systems as well as the extension of the current train storage unit. 80% of the line will be planted using a system developed by Colas Rail to reduce the use of concrete and watering requirements. The total contract value amounts to €42 million and work will begin at the end of 2018 for delivery mid-2021.

In addition, as part of a consortium with the road company TPPL, Colas Projects (project manager), a Colas subsidiary specialized in major projects, and Colas Centre-Ouest, a regional Colas road subsidiary, secured one of the three urban road improvement projects related to the second tramway line. The West Sector contract involves the completion of development work on both sides of the tramway as well as quality paving along the right-of-way of the tracks, for a total of €20.7 million. Work will begin in May 2020 for delivery scheduled for June 2022.

Colas Rail and Colas Centre-Ouest had both previously participated in the construction of the first tramway line in Angers.
