Colas secures a major multi-year road maintenance contract in Canada

Colas, through its Canadian subsidiary The Miller Group, has been selected by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to carry out all maintenance work on the road network in the Durham region, east of Toronto in the Province of Ontario. This major contract, worth around 100 million Euros1, covers a period of seven years, starting in August 2026.
Under this contract, more than 40 employees will be mobilized full time all year round, a team reinforced each winter by 160 specialized equipment operators.
During the summer period, The Miller Group will be responsible for pavement repairs, maintenance of shoulders, safety guardrails, structures and drainage systems, as well as management of vegetation and electrical equipment. In winter, the teams will be responsible for snow clearing, sand and salt spreading, and the preventive and curative treatment of snow and ice, to ensure the safety of road users in all circumstances.
In line with its commitment to respecting the environment, the subsidiary will be implementing a number of concrete actions to limit the carbon footprint of its operations. Two low-emission patrol trucks will be rolled out from the start of the project, with the aim of gradually expanding this fleet. The idle management program will be strengthened with tracking software to analyze and optimize vehicle behavior in real time.
In addition, all emergency intervention units will be equipped with dual batteries. Finally, all hand tools will also be battery-powered, thereby reducing emissions.
"This contract illustrates the Ontario Ministry of Transportation's confidence in The Miller Group. We are proud to carry out the maintenance of this strategic network, by combining operational performance, innovation and respect for the environment, in the service of user safety", says Francois Vachon, Colas’ Executive Vice President, Canada.
Operating in Canada for almost 60 years, Colas has strengthened its commitment to providing high-quality road maintenance services with the signing of this new contract, which is fully in line with its strategy of sustainable development of the territories. Regular maintenance of road networks improves safety for users and avoids the extra costs associated with complete infrastructure refurbishment.
