Colas has secured a major contract to upgrade National Highway 15 in Finland
Colas, through its Finnish subsidiary Destia, has won a contract to renovate National Road 15 between Rantahaka and Kouvola. This project, led by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, aims to improve traffic flow and user safety. The work, valued at approximately €93 million*, will begin in the fall of 2026 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2029.
National Highway 15 between Kotka and Kouvola is a key route for transport to ports and industrial sites, as well as for commuter traffic in the Kymenlaakso region. Today, certain sections experience congestion and safety issues, as the narrow two-lane road can no longer accommodate the increase in traffic.
As part of this project, Destia will design and construct passing lanes with a median divider on certain sections, modify the alignment over approximately eight kilometers, and upgrade major intersections and junctions.
The project also includes the construction of a grade-separated interchange, the conversion of several intersections into staggered intersections, and the creation of a continuous parallel road along part of the route.
Destia will also implement improvements at major intersections to enhance pedestrian and bicycle traffic flow as well as access to local roads. The project further includes the construction of two wildlife crossings, the installation of road lighting, as well as noise abatement and groundwater protection measures.
"The project is progressing on schedule, and the preparatory work is providing a solid foundation for construction to begin after the summer. The aim is to carry out the work in phases so that disruption to traffic remains as minimal as possible", says Project Manager Antti Koski from the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
"This project demonstrates our ability to support our clients in modernizing strategic infrastructure by providing concrete solutions to improve safety and traffic flow, regardless of the countries in which we operate", said Pierre Vanstoflegatte, CEO of the Colas Group.
This project is part of Destia’s ongoing work in Finland to modernize key road corridors, develop transportation infrastructure, and implement improvements aimed at enhancing the safety and performance of transportation networks.
