Colas has secured a contract to modernize an important railway line in the Czech Republic

Colas CZ and Colas Rail have been awarded a contract by Sprava zeleznic (Czech Railway Company), to modernize the 8-kilometer railway line in Northern Bohemia. The project, valued at €77 million, is set to significantly enhance the safety and efficiency of transportation under the mountains of Krusne hory.
The railway section, built in the 1980s to support the region’s growing brown coal extraction, is part of one of Europe’s main train lines. The modernization of the railway track will begin in September 2024 and is expected to be completed by 2027.
The project encompasses a comprehensive overhaul of the double-track, the installation of new catenaries, the modernization of signaling systems, and the renovation of six railway bridges. To improve passenger comfort, two new accessible platforms will be built as well as a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists and an underpass.
"We are very proud to execute this project for Sprava zeleznic. Once completed, the train line will provide faster and safer travel options and will contribute to the boost of the region's economy", says Francis Grass, Executive Vice President (Europe, Middle East, Africa) at Colas.
