Sully-Miller Contracting Co. helps communities rebuild after devastating wildfires in California.
Rebuilding Hope After Disaster
In late January 2025, Los Angeles was struck by a series of devastating wildfires, including the Eaton Fire, which ravaged the northern part of the city.
Entire neighborhoods were wiped out, and more than 10,000 structures were damaged or destroyed.
In the aftermath, Colas’ U.S. subsidiary Sully-Miller Contracting Co.,based in southern California, was on the front lines of cleanup and recovery efforts.
Team Lead Bernardo Monrreal explained “We’re clearing what used to be someone’s home, and at the same time helping to recycle and repurpose as many materials as possible. Each site tells a story, and we’re here to help write the next chapter.”
Teamwork, Resilience, and Care on the Ground
Fifteen Sully-Miller crews worked across the affected neighborhoods, operating at an impressive pace of one to two days per lot.
Their mission:
- Clear debris safely and efficiently,
- Sort and recycle materials,
- Prepare sites for rebuilding,
- And above all, support local residents beginning their long road to recovery.
Each team approached their work with precision and compassion, aware that every cleared site represents a family’s lost home, and a future to rebuild.
A Symbol of Renewal and Resilience
Beyond their technical expertise, Sully-Miller teams bring a deeply human touch to their work.
At several sites, after clearing the last of the debris, they’ve left behind a rosebush — a small but powerful gesture symbolizing hope, life, and renewal.
“It’s our way of giving something back,” says Bernardo. “When homeowners eventually return, we want them to see that life continues, and that beauty can grow again.”
