Low-Carbon and Sustainable Solutions
Colas offers concrete solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of infrastructure, conduct sustainable pollution clean-up, and restore natural environments.

Carbon Footprint: Building and Rehabilitating Differently with Colas
At Colas, we’re fully aware of the environmental impact generated by the construction and maintenance of transport infrastructure, as well as urban development and industrial activities. We therefore have a responsibility to offer solutions with a lower carbon footprint, based on proven technologies, innovative materials, and optimized jobsite management. We also work alongside local communities to help restore natural habitats and durably clean up polluted sites.
High-Performance Technical Products with a Reduced Carbon Footprint
At Colas, reducing our carbon footprint involves product innovation. Our solutions incorporate alternative, recycled, or bio-based materials, with proven performance in the field.
- Vegeroad, asphalt mixes containing a bio-based binder. A carbon footprint that is around 30% lower than that of a traditional asphalt mix, while offering the same performance.
- Vegecol, Colas’ environmental reference. A carbon footprint that is around 70% lower than that of a traditional light-colored asphalt mix.
- Recycol, in-situ pavement recycling. Average reduction in CO2 emissions of between 35% and 70% compared to a reference solution.
- Easycold, cold road asphalt mixes. Average reduction in carbon footprint of between 30% and 60%
Our Commitment, Proof Not Promises
We don’t use the generic phrase “low carbon,” At Colas, we prefer to talk about solutions with a lower carbon footprint, indicating the reference product and supported by measurable data, tested products, and proven practices. It is this rigor that guarantees our public and private customers a credible partnership, aligned with ecological transition objectives.
Cleaning Up Polluted Soils and Sensitive Sites Sustainably
Colas offers a complete range of services for treating polluted soils, groundwater, effluents, and polluted air. This expertise is applied to brownfield redevelopment, industrial conversion, and urban development projects, including:
- Pollution assessment, complementary investigations.
- In-situ, off-site, or on-site treatment (bioremediation, washing, confinement) of impacted earth and underground water contaminated with pollutants.
- The management of polluted excavated soil and earth as part of a circular economy approach via treatment platforms.
- Operations in heavily regulated sensitive zones with, for example, Zero Net Artificialization objectives (France).
Colas Environnement acts as a specialized works company, integrated into infrastructure projects, to guarantee certified, traceable solutions that meet the expectations of general contractors.
Restoring Natural Habitats Through Ecological Engineering
Colas develops concrete ecological engineering initiatives to preserve, restore, or compensate for the impact of infrastructure on natural habitats. These initiatives are integrated from the project design stage.
- Soil bioengineering: riverbank stabilization, embankments, trenches
- Ecological continuity: restoration of wetlands, “blue/green infrastructure” aquatic and natural environment preservation policy
- Environmental compensation: creation or upgrading of natural habitats
- Activities coordinated with ecologists, landscape architects, and hydrologists
Through its profit center network, supported by ecological engineering expertise developed in-house at Colas and specialized partnerships, Colas guarantees sustainable projects that comply with regulatory requirements and the expectations of public and private players.
