Safe and energy-efficient driving

Our QSE policy has shown us that improvements to fuel consumption can be made by better driving. What’s more, a calmer driving style improves road safety. Philippe Leclere, who had already led a similar plan in a different context, joined us to head up the program.
In the first year, there were:

  • 43 driving inspections carried out in Operations
  • 43 facility inspections
  • 43 driver inspections
  • 40 vehicle inspections

After four months, the first results showed:

  • Saving in diesel-fuel: 37,000 l (1.73 l / 100 km)
  • Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions: more than 100 t.
  • Financial saving: 40,000 €
  • Safety: this initiative adds to those already in operation at COLAS IDFN. In the first quarter of 2008, we saw a 25% fall in traffic accident figures, (no fault included).

In 2010, 3 ½ years later:

  • More than 400,000 liters of diesel fuel saved(trucks and vans),
  • More than 300 driving audits,
  • Some 1,000 employees trained in safe, energy-efficient driving on trucks, vans and passenger vehicles.

Such positive feedback was used to launch the Group’s worldwide safe, energy-efficient driving campaign in 2010.
